On September 29, 2020, the Department of Defense (“DoD”) issued an Interim Rule to supplement its Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (“CMMC”) program with a DoD Assessment Methodology.
The progressive steps to mandatory contractor Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) are expected to roll out over the next five years. However, certain preliminary actions are required this month to ensure that contractors are eligible for award of new contracts, task orders, delivery orders or option terms.
Keith Nakasone, deputy assistant commissioner for acquisition at the GSA Office of IT told Government Matters host Francis Rose the agency’s master contracts will include CMMC language and civilian agencies will have the option to incorporate the program into their orders.
One message was made clear from the Defense Department’s Katie Arrington during a Washington Technology webcast on Thursday – there is no gray area when it comes to the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Capability assessments contractors will have to go through.
Another of the General Services Administration’s emerging next-generation IT acquisition contracts will contain the Defense Department’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification requirements, according to agency officials.
Even before its official launch, the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program is generating additional interest in its applicability for non-defense sectors, panelists said at the CISQ Cyber Resilience Summit.
